Concha y Toro Marques de Casa Concha Merlot 2004 Peumo, ChileList Price: $19, We Bought a Bunch: $14.99
A third great vintage in a row for the Marques....
What the Wine Critics Thought: Wine Enthusiast 90 Points Like always, this Merlot is a potent brew of dark fruit, molasses, peppery spice and Chilean terroir. The plush palate is extremely ripe and forward, as it offers mounds of berriers and chocolate. New World at every turn, and what's wrong with that? Editor's Choice. — M.S.
What We Thought: This serious bottle of Merlot has lots of cedar and cassis on the very Cabernet-like nose, and a rich, full-bodied blackberry palate supported by some serious tannins. This decanter-worthy Merlot will reward your patience by softening dramatically after about a twenty minute decant.
